My name is Jefferson S. Rivera, a fresh graduate from Tarlac State University with a course of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology(BSIT) major in Web and Mobile Development. I am an aspiring web developer, graphic designer, video editor, and businessman. I have a passion for creating and designing websites and graphic designs, and I also do marketing as a sideline since I was a teen. I have no work experience for now, but I have a background in the ambitions I want to pursue.
I used to work as a graphics design intern at Pinklestar Inc. It was fun and at the same time learning new things, especially in designing. I may have had strict mentors and bosses who criticized my work, especially in my early days, but I took all of it as a lesson for me to become better, and happily, I got a perfect grade(1.0) in my OJT which leads me to become a dean's lister for the final semester.
I started programming when I was in junior high school level. It all started when I owned an outdated android phone(4.4 Kitkat), and it doesn't have an Android Lolipop(5.1) update. I wanted to experience the look and feel of the latest android version(Android 5.0), but I can’t afford to buy a new phone for it, so I modified the stock rom of my device until I achieved the Android Lollipop UI/UX. I edited system parts which are layouts, icons, animations, volume packs, etc in the system. And after I finished my project and posted it publicly, I didn’t expect it to blow up and will be loved by many users even in other countries. I only released it for my device then some developers and porters ported it to different phones for them to use my custom rom. It was reviewed by many authors around hors around XDA Developers, Xiaomi EU, Facebook Community, etc. Since then, I found myself enjoying and having the potential in designing a system, applications, websites, and graphics.
The kind of design I always do and try to achieve is clean and user-friendly. I cannot say that I’m perfect, but when it comes to designing, I’m very strict with myself as I always want to achieve the standards of myself and my users. When I was in my senior high school level, I started building simple websites, but I lost them because my old laptop was broken, but I was able to save some of my school projects during my college years. I can’t tell that I am good at programming, but I can say is I have an idea and background on how to play with it, like where to place the specific codes, what’s the function of the code, fixing bugs thru trials and errors, reading source code, and understanding the flow. Researching is always a big part of me, especially in creating a project, especially when I want some features, ideas, and help.
When the pandemic came, my programming habit was stopped. I became a professional esports player, and it became my source of income. I have a contract, so I am obligated to focus on my gaming career while studying online. I didn’t regret entering this career because, by this, I bought things that I only dreamt of before, such as expensive phones, accessories, and my own vehicle. But by the time I finished college, I needed to let go of my career in eSports, because it came to my realization that I should continue and pursue my IT career since I studied hard for it.
I may be independent when it comes to creating projects, but I always humbly take helps from those who are willing, also I don’t feel offended when some people criticize my work, especially those who have more experience and are higher level than me, what I do is I will take note of what they said and I’ll try to achieve what they want especially if they are my boss.
